About Us

Jan Sewa Parishad Hazaribag, created in 1990 in reaction to the sorry states of human, natural and institutional resources and eroding Indian social structures, is a Hindi term meaning “a group of intellectuals to serve the people.” Its founders were part of the social and economic movement Sampurna Kranti, established in Bihar in 1974 by Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan. JSP arose to strike at root causes of resource over exploitation and miss utilization by rallying the strength of marginalized men, women and youth to fight antisocial and anti-developmental factors. The social and participatory convictions upon which Jan Sewa Parishad was founded are fundamental to its existence and success.

Staff & Qualifications

JSP has a team of dedicated professionals for its diversified activities. At present 155 full-time 9 part-time staff and 172 volunteers consisting of professionals like, rural development professionals, engineers, sociologists, agriculturalists, educationist, training professionals of diversified field and health related experts. The volunteers are the village level representatives deputed by JSP for work of the particular village.


JSP has adopted a strategy of a balanced mix of social action, social mobilization and sustainable development, to ensure a socially just, educated, egalitarian and non-exploitative society.

Monitoring Mechanism

JSP adopts a multi-layered monitoring mechanism to study the progress of the projects. In an attempt to have focused approach on the achievement of results, the project is monitored closely at PC level followed by Director and then by the External. The monitoring cum evaluation by the External is generally done on a yearly basis. The monitoring mechanism of JSP is done in such a way so as to ensure maximum community participation and thereby ensuring service delivery to the intended. The concept of social monitoring/ social audit is also being introduced to assess the impact of the project from the view of the target community. A general monitoring mechanism is shown below, however it does vary as per the requirements of the project.
